Yoxall Community Time Capsule Ceremony 28th May 2021

(Please read the article below an amazing £480 was raised)

Yoxall St Peter’s Primary School, in conjunction with Yoxall Parish Council are proud to have created a time capsule to capture life in lockdown in Yoxall, generously supported by Parker Hall Independent Estate Agents.

Take a few moments to think – if we were to create a time capsule of objects that captured life over the last 12 months, what might we choose?

The School PTA (FOSPS -Friends of St Peter’s School) sold time capsule packs across the school and wider community whereby each container enclosed ‘momentos’ and records of this unprecedented time in history. There were a whole host of items captured and buried in the time capsule: face masks, photographs, diaries, coins and newspaper clips to name just a few!

The sun was shining on 28th May for the ceremony – a ticketed event to meet COVID restrictions. All of the school children visited Goose Green in bubbles throughout the morning, read poems and added some magic rainbow dust to the hole. In the afternoon the wider community joined in the ceremony whereby the time capsule was buried. The hole was duly backfilled by the Vicar, Headteacher and a local policeman!

The time capsule will be given a 10 year recommended re-opening! All containers were placed inside a watertight ‘time capsule’ buried within the village at Goose Green. A Rowan Tree (donated by Woodhouse Green Nurseries) also stands alongside the buried time capsule, marked by a plaque.

FOSPS and the whole school would like to thank everyone who supported the event. The event raised a fantastic £480 which will be used for the development of the forest school area within the school grounds.

Some might wish to forget this last 18 months. However, the objects we collated are intended to be symbols of acts, experiences, ideas and changes that are worth preserving. We asked our submitters to propose items they believe deserve attention and remembering during these turbulent times. As well as the trauma, this year has also brought some positive changes that we don’t want to lose, moments when things got a little bit better amid the chaos, local wisdom or inspiration, as well as warnings that we might hope will not be forgotten.

Time capsules have always been about what a society wishes to remember and pass on: its best version of itself, projected into the future. They are usually subjective, often eclectic, and always tell a human story. And that’s exactly what we got – to be enjoyed by a future generation.
