We have launched a new e-safety area on our website.
Can we remind parents that the minimum age to open an account on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Kik, and Snapchat is 13. For Vine, Tinder and Yik Yak it’s 17. YouTube requires account holders to be 18, but a 13-year-old can sign up with a parent’s permission.
This article, although from 2014, exposes the risks very succinctly, https://www.huffingtonpost.com/diana-graber/3-reasons-why-social-media-age-restrictions-matter_b_5935924.html?guccounter=1
We take the Safeguarding of children in our care very seriously. If we discover that children at Yoxall are using social media inappropriately, we would ask for parents to intervene and take the material down; if the child was continued to be placed at risk, we would contact the necessary agencies.
We know that the Internet can be a minefield. That is why we have put together a comprehensive guide to e-safety on our website. Head over to e-safety section to find out more.
We will also be announcing a series of seminars next half term. Many thanks for your support in helping to keep our children safe online.
